The objective of reaching a climate-neutral Europe by 2050 presents major opportunities and challenges for Europe’s industry. Europe must act if it is not to fall behind internationally. The quality promise ‘Made in Europe’ can make the business location a lead market for green technologies of the future. This applies to hydrogen, battery and wind power, as well as to CCS and CCU technologies. However, there is still a lack of ecological, social and technological standards, along with their independent verification. Furthermore, incentive systems and support mechanisms are not yet sufficiently in place. This also applies to the domestic raw material extraction, processing and recycling industry, which must in future play a stronger role for Europe‘s raw material sovereignty.
What needs to be done
- Promote climate technologies ‘Made in Europe’
- Establish a secure and sustainable raw materials supply
- Boost carbon utilisation and storage in Europe
